Longhand Note of Former President Harry S. Truman, ca. 1954. President's Secretary's Files - Longhand Notes.

Nitocris, queen of Babylon 2500 years ago, constructed a flood control project on the Euphrates River above Babylon. She made a basin 420 furlongs (about 50 miles) in circumference and to a depth where water was struck. Then she directed the river into the basin which took up the surplus water. She also changed the course of the Euphrates about the basin making curves in it and causing it to have a slower flow.
