Longhand Note of President Harry S. Truman, August 25, 1952. President's Secretary's Files - Longhand Notes.

August 25 '52

The President of Italy sent a Roman Vase of the 1st century as a decoration for the refinished Presidents House.

King George VI had given, by the hand of his daughter Princess Elizabeth, now Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain a beautiful over mantel, which we placed on the north wall of the State Dining room. Candelabra, 2 came with it.

The President of France had sent a beautiful clock for the Red Parlor Mantle. Two candelabra included.

The Roman Vase and its pedestal weigh over 1600 pounds and is seven feet high. It will have to be placed in the East Rose Garden. Mr. Finley & I made that decision.
