Longhand Note of President Harry S. Truman, February 8, 1951. President's Secretary's Files - Longhand Notes.
Feb. 8, 1951
The Prime Minister of New Zealand came in to see me and spent an hour and a half. We had a most pleasant talk and visit. Had a formal luncheon for him at 1 P.M.
He seemed to be pleased with the first meeting and with the luncheon. Had everyone sign the seating plan and gave it to him.
He is our friend as is Menzies of Australia. Neither Holland or Menzies can make out Nehru. I can't either. Our Britisher calls him a "political crook." He's Britain's McCarthy maybe.
