Portrait of Trygve Lie, was elected Secretary-General of the United Nations on February 1, 1946. He was born in Calo, Norway on July 16, 1896, and holds a degree from the Oslo University Law School. He has served as Minister of Justice and of Commerce for his Government, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and represented Norway at the First Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
