Description

The Court Street Methodist Church ladies are shown preparing for the multitude that would swarm into town for ceremonies at Westminster College where President Harry S. Truman and Britain's former Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, are to be awarded honorary degrees. Cooks from all over Callaway County had been pressed into service. The star of the menu was Callaway County ham. Churchill relished the meal. He solemnly proclaimed, "The pig has reached its highest point of evolution in this ham!" From: Hathon M. Fields, Independence, Missouri.
