TRUMAN LIBRARY GETS INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

This year, lights and special guest appearance start the holiday season.

(Independence, Mo.) - The holiday season is upon us, and the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum is celebrating with new holiday lighting and a very special event.

Ron and Mary Seeley, collectors of Presidential Christmas memorabilia in the Library's new exhibit, "Season's Greetings from the White House," will be at the Library on Thursday, December 9 at 7 p.m. The Seeleys will present a multi-faceted program featuring a special slide show, a personally guided tour of the exhibit, and signing of Mrs. Seeley's book that shares the exhibit's name. The Seeleys' guest appearance is free and open to the public.

"Season's Greetings from the White House" gives lively, historical perspective to the White House holiday season through a wonderful collection of Presidential Christmas cards and holiday gifts. After twice being featured at The White House, the Seeley's Presidential Christmas collection can be seen at the Truman Library through January 13, 2000.
The exhibit contains more than 200 White House greeting cards, illustrations, gifts, and other holiday memorabilia spanning much of American History, particularly the 20th Century. The Truman Library will supplement the exhibition with additional holiday memorabilia from the Library's collection representing the Truman years.

On Thursday, Dec. 2, the Truman Library will also feature a traditional Holiday Lighting. This year, the 12-foot fir tree in the museum's main lobby will be decorated by the sixth grade students of Santa Fe Trail School. In addition, the Library itself will be illuminated with an architectural outline of the building in white lights. The lighting of the tree and building will be held at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Truman Library and Museum is located at U.S. Highway 24 and Delaware in Independence, Mo. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a. m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission is $5 for adults, $4.50 for seniors, $3 for children ages 6 to 18, and free for children 5 years and under.

The Harry S. Truman Library is one of ten Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.
