Public Invited to Pay Respects to Margaret Truman Daniel
Mrs. Daniel to be Honored by Friends and Family at Truman Library Memorial Service

INDEPENDENCE, MO-Margaret Truman Daniel, the only child of former President Harry S. Truman and First Lady Bess Wallace Truman, passed away on January 29, 2008. Her memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum, 500 West U.S. Highway 24, Independence, Missouri.

A small, private funeral for the family will be held prior to the Truman Library memorial service. Mrs. Daniel's remains, and those of her late husband, E. Clifton Daniel, will be interred in the Truman Library Courtyard, adjacent to her parents, former President and First Lady Harry and Bess Truman.

Mrs. Daniel's sons extend an invitation for the public to join them in honoring the life and memory of their mother at this event. Because the Truman Library auditorium seats fewer than 250, the public will be admitted into the Museum galleries, where the service may be heard. Following the program, all will be invited into the Courtyard to pay respects and lay flowers at the gravesites of the Truman family. Guests with special needs may contact the Deputy Director of the Truman Library, Amy Williams, at amy.williams@nara.gov or (816) 268-8229.

Those unable to attend the memorial service may sign an online condolence book and view the service at a later date at www.trumanlibrary.org; individuals may also send condolences in care of the Truman Library. The family has suggested that tax-deductible contributions be made in Mrs. Daniel's memory to the Truman Library Institute, nonprofit partner of the Truman Library, and the American Cancer Society.

Guests with special needs may contact the Deputy Director of the Truman Library, Amy Williams, at amy.williams@nara.gov or (816) 268-8229.

There will be limited media access during the memorial service. Media wishing to cover the event should contact Susan Medler, Truman Library Institute director of communications, at susan.medler@nara.gov or (816) 268.8245.

Truman. To learn more about the Truman Library and the Harry S. Truman Library Institute, visit www.trumanlibrary.org.
