Nine newsreels (not in production order) from Universal-International depicting news in the world of politics, sports, celebrities, science and human interest. Included is footage of the June, 1950, dedication of Friendship Airport in Maryland by President Truman.

02:40   “Woodward Takes Canada Post”. Footage of Stanley Woodward, the new United States Ambassador to Canada, arriving in Ottawa to begin his duties. (silent)
03:30   “Dutch Welcome Mrs. FDR.” Footage of Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt arriving in the Netherlands with her son Elliott. (Sound, in German)
04:20   “Marble King crowned”. National Marble Tournament, in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is won by 14-year-old Robert Rerzlaff of Alabama. (silent)
05:00   “New Speedboat Record”. Stanley Sayres of Seattle makes a new world record of 160 plus mph in his speedboat “Slo-Mo-Shun”. (silent)
05:55   “A.A.U. Track Meet”. Track and Field championships in College Park, Maryland.
07:05   “Truman Dedicates Airport”. President Truman dedicates new Friendship Airport in Maryland. He reviews a guard of honor before addressing a large crowd who attended the dedication. (silent, except for Truman’s speech)

08:20   “Friendly’ Invasion”. Footage of the dedication of an unknown historic fort. Soldiers in period costume of the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Views of historic military parade with modern day military officers saluting as historically dressed soldiers pass; politicians and military officers laying wreath; visitors touring fort. 09:35   “America Goes All Out to Back U. N. in Korea”. News from the fighting front in Korea and America’s campaign to back the United Nations. Views of American troops arriving in Korea; General Douglas MacArthur visiting the battle front; Korean refugees fleeing the advancement of Communist forces; Marines preparing to leave for Japan; and Canadian destroyers embarking to join other United Nation’s warships. (Silent, but sound briefly back in periodically, in possibly Korean or Chinese language.)
12:25   “Tennis at Wimbledon”. Footage of Wimbledon tennis tournament, and match between Budge Patty of the U.S. and Sedgman of Australia. At 12:35 is footage of former Queen Mary and Clement Attlee watching the tennis match. (Silent)

21:40   “Korea Crisis, Troop Landings Back Embattled U. N. Forces”. The arrival of reinforcements from Japan aids U.N. Forces, and President Syngman Rhee, head of the Korean republic, gives speech honoring American soldiers, sailors and airmen. (Silent, sound returns during Rhee’s speech which is at 23:18-24:35.)
24:40   “King Leopold Back from Exile”. King Leopold returns after ten year exile to take his place as ruler of Belgium. (silent)
26:06   “Water Skiing”. Aquatic show in Greenwood Lake, New York. (silent)
27:10   “A. A. U. Swim Meet”. A. A. U. swimming competitions held in Seattle, Washington. The mile swim is won by Johnny Marshall of Yale University. Ford Konno of Hawaii comes in second place. (silent)
28:15   “Aquatennial Capers”. Aqua follies held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which includes a float parade and clown divers. (silent)

29:38   “Nation Tightens Belt to Back United Nations Fight in Korea”. Footage of Americans on the home front demonstrating methods of conserving food. (silent)
31:50   Charles Coburn, character actor and star of upcoming film “Louisa,” gets a big welcome at Coney Island, and leaves an impression in cement after a day at the beach. (silent)
33:08   “Canadian Leader Buried”. Funeral of MacKenzie King, former Prime Minister of Canada, is attended by Prime Minister Saint Laurent, Viscount Alexander and others.
33:48   “Old-Style Chariot Race”. Present-day Romans stage a spectacular chariot race from ancient times.
34:55   “Midget Auto Comes to Grief”. In Barcelona, Spain, during an auto race, one midget racer narrowly escapes death.
35:40   “Ski-Birds Hit the Hay”. In New Hampshire, a summer ski meet brings out the ski-birds for a go on artificial snow.

36:48   “Korea Story.” Reinforced American troops dig in on a shrinking beach head. As fresh troops arrive, the U. S. wins a victory in the U.N. Security Council with the adoption of its motion to consider the condemnation of North Korea; footage of riots in New York’s Union Square by peace proponents.
41:35   “Rodeo Sparks Pioneer Days”. In Joseph, Oregon, the annual Chief Joseph Days celebration. At 42:00 is footage of actors Walter Brennan and Chill Wills attending the event.

44:00   “The Korea Story”. Reinforcements continue to pour into Korea as U.N. forces halt the communist invasion of Pusan. GIs screen infiltrating North Koreans for weapons. Footage of General Douglas MacArthur’s visit to Formosa, and his meeting with Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek. The United Nations Security Council talks in a stalemate because of Soviet delegate Jacob Malik. (silent, except for U.N. Security Council news footage at 46:38.)
47:30   “Sugar Ray Retains Title”. In Jersey City, New Jersey, Sugar Ray Robinson, defeats Charley Fusari in welterweight title. Footage of Jim Farley, Walter Winchell and Gene Tunney viewing the fight.
49:20   “The Hambletonian.” Lusty Song wins $40,000 in harness racing at Goshen, New York.

51:30   “UN Assembly Convenes: Hear Acheson Peace Plea”. In New York, the United Nations hears Secretary of State Dean Acheson speak. (silent, except for footage of Dean Acheson’s speech at 53:15)
54:00   “Inchon Invasion!” First actual films of the huge amphibious assault at Inchon in Korea and the push towards the capital city of Seoul. Marine assault forces swarm ashore at Wolmi Island, following a pre-invasion bombardment by fleet units and planes. Footage of Gen. MacArthur at the front lines and conferring with top military chiefs. Footage of Big “Patton” tanks used in the push on Seoul. (silent)
57:55   “Crusade for Freedom”. Footage of Soviet forces; National Committee for a free Europe; filmed speech by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. (Silent. Note: This segment of the newsreel is not listed in the Universal-International Newsreel periodical. )
59:55   “N. Y. – N. J. Defense Pact”. The states of New York and New Jersey enter into a joint civil defense preparedness program. Gen. Lucius Clay explains the basic purpose of the program. Footage of Gov. Thomas E. Dewey is also shown. (sound and silent)
