COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Atomic Bomb Gallery Visitor Comment Books contain the opinions of visitors to the Truman Library’s museum regarding the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

From 2001 to 2019, the books were kept in a museum gallery devoted to providing information and differing views about President Truman’s decision to use atomic bombs against Japan to end World War II. They provided a means of continuing the debate over the morality of Truman’s decision. The varying opinions expressed by visitors over the years may have been influenced by various political and societal changes.

The Truman Library also has visitor comment books from the museum’s Living Legacy Gallery.
