COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Harry Truman Browne consist of correspondence, photographs, invitations, memorabilia, printed material, and other items relating primarily to Browne’s political activities and attendance at the presidential Inaugurations of 1961 and 1965, and to his attendance at the dedication ceremonies for the Harry S. Truman Library in 1957. The collection is comprised of one series, a Subject File, arranged alphabetically by folder title.

Among the printed materials are a limited edition reproduction of John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address, a 1961 Life magazine souvenir edition entitled “Inaugural Spectacle,” and a magazine-style publication about Kennedy’s assassination.

The collection contains a small number of photographs. Harry S. Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Chief Justice Earl Warren all appear in these photographs. Most were taken at the 1957 dedication of the Truman Library and the 1961 Inauguration.

The correspondence includes one letter from Harry S. Truman to Browne, thanking him for a Christmas package that Browne sent to Truman. Several letters from Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson to Browne offer thanks for his continued support of the Democratic Party.

Among the memorabilia in the collection are menus from the U.S. Senate restaurant, Inaugural tickets, a badge from the 1961 Inaugural, and an invitation to the 1961 Inaugural that was autographed by Harry S. Truman.
