Notes: He was an orphan at the age of four. He made his home with his grandfather until he joined the Confederate Army in 1861. Joseph Tilford Noland served as a private soldier in Upton Hayes' Compnay, Shanks' Regiment, in Sterling Price's Army--General Joseph Shelby, Commanding Officer. This division was part of the Confederate Army during the time of the Confederate States of America of which Jefferson Davis was president. J.T. Noland enlisted in Jackson County, Missouri in 1861. He was in the battles of Wilson's Creek, Lexington, Independence, Westport, and several others in Missouri. He was mustered out of the service at Shreveport, Louisiana in 1865 and returned to Jackson County, Missouri. He joined a wagon train hauling mining machinery to Canon City, Colorado. He bought land in Jackson County, Missouri and farmed for 12 years. The greater part of his life was spent in Independence, Missouri. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.
