Reel 1

0:00   Unidentified voice says "Take 3, second stick 6, take 1, sound 7." There is the voice of an interviewer, possibly Merle Miller, talking to Rufus Burrus, a friend of Harry S. Truman and a lawyer in Independence, Missouri.
0:30   Rufus Burrus discusses his visits with Harry S. Truman in the White House. In May 1945 General Vaughan arranged a visit. Steve Early was present during the visit. At one point Harry S. Truman remarked, "Don’t let Rufe be bartender. He’ll pour all the liquor down the sink." There is a story about this that Mr. Burrus relates.
In June 1950, Mr. Burrus was in Washington for a Reserve Officers Association meeting, and met with Mr. Burrus again at Blair House. Fred Wallace, Mr. Truman's brother-in-law was also there. Mr. Truman was working on a speech about the Korean War.
4:49   Harry S. Truman told Rufus "we must do something about what’s going on in Korea." He was developing a course of action. The United Nations would carry out a defense of South Korea. It should be localized, not spread, to not bring in communist China.
7:27   Rufus Burrus states he first met Harry S. Truman on the steps of the Bank of Independence. Frank Wallace introduced him as "the next judge of Eastern Jackson County."
