(Defense will be represented by Secretary of Army;
Attorney General will let us know this morning whether he or Solicitor
General will attend. All others present. Webb for State)
10:45 am The President presented Gold Medal to the Vice President
  which Medal was provided for by Public Law 221 of the Eighty-
  first Congress. The following people were present:

11:45 am Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clark, Billings, Montana
Mr. John Murphy
Mr. Dwight Oliver, Department Commander of AMVETS
(Senator Murray of Montana wrote the President in May
telling him that Clark was coming here at this time
for reunion of men who served aboard USS Hornet. Clark
was wounded when bomb exploded on flight deck, March 1944
and as result it was necessary to amputate both his legs.
Men throughout ship, of their own accord, raised money
for Clark, and as he was leaving for Hospital he was presented
with check for over $21,000. The men have now arranged
for Mr. and Mrs. Clark to be flown here from Billings for
this reunion.)
