(Called Mr. Connelly yesterday and asked for this)
11:30 am Hon. Claude G. Bowers, American Ambassador to Chile
(Asked thru Mr. Woodward to call on the President
before returning to his post at Santiago - sailing
from New York tomorrow)
12:00 pm Hon. Bolitha J. Laws, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court
Hon. Harold M. Stephens, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals
(Judge Laws phoned Mr. Connelly two weeks ago to ask if
they might call on the President to ask him to lay
cornerstone on afternoon of June 7th of new U.S. Courts
Building in D.C.)
12:15 pm Dr. and Mrs. Herbert T. Kalmes
Mr. Al Cohn
(Dr. Kalmes is President of Technicolor, and asked,
thru Mr. Cohn, if he and his wife might call on the
President. Mr. Cohn wrote later to say they had asked
him to come with them)
12:30 pm Hon. James E. Webb, Under Secretary of State
(Usual Thursday appointment for Secretary of State)
1:00 pm (LUNCH)
4:00 pm Press and Radio Conference [Public Papers]
4:30 pm The President received members of the Board of Trustees
of the Committee for Economic Development.
(Originally Mr. Paul Hoffman expressed hope that the
President might come to their dinner or a lunch, but
this was settled upon instead.)
