(Called Mr. Matthew Connelly last Thursday to ask for this.)
12:00 pm Honorable Francis Biddle, President, A.D.A.
(Newly elected President of A.D.A., and in that capacity asked
if he might pay his respects to the President.)
12:15 pm Congressman Leonard Irving, Missouri
(Asked Mr. Matthew Connelly to arrange this.)
12:30 pm The Secretary of State [Dean G. Acheson]
(Usual Monday appointment)
1:00 pm (Cabinet Luncheon -- the Vice President [Alben Barkley] hopes to be back in time;
the Postmaster General [Jesse Donaldson] was not able to come; Vice President
and Secretary Charles F. Brannan also absent.)
3:15 pm Honorable Carl R. Gray, Jr., Administrator of Veterans Affairs
(Mr. Matthew Connelly asked him to come in, at the direction of
the President.)
7:15 pm The President attended dinner of the Federal Bar Association
at the Statler Hotel.
10:00 pm [Public Papers: Address at a Dinner of the Federal Bar Association]
