(They brought gifts from the natives of Bikini.
The appointment was originally only for Senator
Hatch and Admiral Blandy, but the Senator called
later and asked for permission to bring others
as he said they felt all the "gold braid would
impress and please King Judah".)
11:00 am Judge and Mrs. George Neilson
(Judge on Municipal Court of the District of
Columbia. This was arranged two or three
weeks ago. Came in to pay respects and invite
the President to dinner.)
11:15 am Senator Burnet R. Maybank, S.C.
(Wired from South Carolina yesterday and asked
for this appointment.)
11:30 am (Honorable Raymond S. McKeough, U.S. Maritime
Commission)
(Called Mr. Connelly yesterday and asked for
this appointment and suggested he come off
record.)
11:45 am Mr. O.G. Warden, Democratic National Committee-
man from Montana.)
(The appointment was arranged at the request of
Mr. Hannegan.)
12:00 pm Honorable George H. Butler, U.S. Ambassador
to the Dominican Republic
(Newly appointed, came to pay respects before
leaving for post about September 10th.)
12:15 pm Mr. Robert P. O'Bannon, President, Indiana
Democratic Editorial Association
Mr. Pleas E. Greenlee, Democratic State
Chairman, Indiana
(They came in to formally invite the President to
the Fall meeting of the Indiana Democratic Editorial
Association in French Lick, Indiana, September 13th
and 14th. The President will be unable to attend,
but as these gentlemen were in town the Connittee
thought it would be a good idea to have them come in.)
