11:00 am The President received representatives of Phoenix Don's Club:
Sen. Carl Hayden, Ariz.; Sen. Ernest W. McFarland, Ariz.;
Cong. John R. Murdock, Ariz.; Cong.Richard F. Harless, Ariz;
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Guirey; Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Foster;
Lt. and Mrs. Fred Bolen.
(Arizona Delegation requested this appointment for representa-
tives of Phoenix Don's Club, group of young businessmen of
that City. This organization has for its purpose perpetuation
of history and lore of Southwest. Are making this trip East
to check Congressional Library files for trace of early
Spanish map which may give approximate location of Lost
Dutchman Gold Mine, orginially owned by Spanish family named
"Peralta". The Dons Club each year conducts a trek to wilds
of old Superstition Mountain near Phoenix, which has attracted
international attention and has been chosen by winter visitors
as number one event in Phoenix. They left Phoenix, the Dons
and their Donas, attired in colorful Spanish Costumes on
Feb. 25th)

Captain Fred Ladoon, Vice Commander, Amer. Legion, from
Chicasaw, Oklahoma.
(Cong. Johnson asked to bring this "Oklahoma Hero" in to meet
the President, and said he was going to also bring along
members of his (The Congressman's) family, but would not
say just how many - wants pictures)

(Re plans for National Council for Veterans and Workers, which
plans have been drawn up by Basil O'Connor. Attached for the
President's information. Geo. Allen looked at file and
recommended that the President see Mrs. Meyer)
12:30 pm The Secretary of Commerce [Henry A. Wallace]; Dir. Condon, Bur. of Standards;
Mr. James Newman.
12:45 pm Senator David I. Walsh; Sen. Leverett Saltonstall; Sen. Peter Gerry.
1:00 pm (Lunch)
3:30 pm Hon. Edward R. Stettinius, Jr.
(Is seeing the Secretary of State at 2.30 and hoped the
President would let him come over after that)
