On June 26, 1945, the charter creating the United Nations was signed on this table in the Veterans' War Memorial Building in San Francisco, California.

"It was the hope of such a charter that help sustain the courage of stricken peoples throughout the darkest days of the war. For it is a declaration of great faith of the nations of the world, faith that war is not inevitable, faith that peace can be maintained."

-- Harry S. Truman on June 26, 1945.
