Use of adjectives to depict setting and reveal character
Incorporation of adjectives into dialogue appropriate for setting

Introduction: Adjectives can describe a-place (setting). Dialogue, using descriptive words,can reveal character depth and personality. Descriptive words can make a picture comealive. Using descriptive words in dialogue makes the whole scene real.
Objective:
To make a photo come alive through descriptive words and dialogue.
To present a large-screen picture, accompanied by spoken dialogue.
To present (on tag board) photo (down-loaded from internet), accompanied by chart of descriptive words and written copy of dialogue.
Procedure:
a) After listening to a dialogue read by teacher (attached) and using Inspirations* to "map" the adjectives for the setting and the characters,
b) Students view 5 photos from Truman's early life on large screen,

c)After arbitrarily being placed in groups of 4, the teacher reviews Scoring Guide on large screen. Students select desired photo (selection returned to screen) and fill in chart on large sheet of paper with descriptive words for Setting, Character I, Character II, Character III.
d) Students put information from large sheet onto Excel spreadsheet or graph from Word
e) Next session - Students write dialogue appropriate for photo, using descriptive words.
