| Return to Truman's Letters to Margaret Folder |
Washington D.C. Nov. 24, 1937 My dear Daughter:- If you knew how happy your dad is when he gets a letter from you, you'd write twice a week instead of just once every two or three weeks. I wish I could come home for Thanksgiving but I can't. The Senate may meet on that day. I talked to Barkley about it and he wasn't sure but that we would meet. I want to see that play most awful bad. I'm sure you'll do your part creditably. It takes work to do anything well. Most people expect everything and do nothing to get it. That is why some people are leaders in society, in politics, in religion, on the stage and elsewhere and some just stand and cry that they haven't been treated fairly. It just takes work and more work to accomplish anything--and your dad knows it better than anyone. It's been my policy to do every job assigned to me just a little better than anyone else has done it. I want you to do the same thing whether its washing dishes or being a leading lady and I know you will. Kiss mamma. Lots of Love to you, dad. |
