| Return to Truman's Letters to Margaret Folder |
Washington DC Sept. 30, 1939 Dear Margie: Was very happy to get your nice letter today. It came just in time. I was about to leave the office when it came. I hope that Mrs. Palmer makes that algebra easy for you. She knows fair better than anyone I know. I have been working so hard I haven't had a chance to see the pictures or even the papers. I did see Beau Geste somewhere not long ago. I believe it was in Cincinnati when I stopped there. It was some show. Sherlock Holmes was here last week but I didn't get to see it. The passes are coming again but I gave them over to the girls. Maybe I can use 'em next week. I hope you came out all right on King Louis the XIV in the test. He's the King whose cook committed suicide when the king put salt in one of his fine culinary concoctions. His grandpa was the greatest King France ever had, King Henry IV. There are more good stories about him than any other French King. Lizzie was Queen of England at the sam e time he reigned. It takes a long tim e to get interested in the personalities of history, but when you do there's nothing equals it and you see why senators and presidents and governors act as they do sometimes. Kiss momma and dozens of 'em for you. Dad. XXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOO |
