September 15-September 18, 1950: General Douglas MacArthur's amphibious landing at Inchon is an unqualified success. The 1st Marine Division advances, intending to recapture the capital city of Seoul.

September 19-September 25, 1950: With General "Ned" Almond's detatched X Corps closing on Seoul and Walton Walker's 8th Army breaking out of the Pusan perimeter, the North Korean Army appears on the verge of destruction. Policy makers consider available intelligence and next steps.

September 26-September 30, 1950: Elements of X Corps and the 8th Army link up near Osan. Seoul is officially re-established as the capital of the Republic of Korea. With North Korean forces in full retreat, authorization is given to cross the pre-war border of the 38th parallel.

October 1-October 7, 1950: The General Assembly of the United Nations passes a resolution authorizing next steps in Korea. Reports indicate the possibility of armed intervention by the Communist People's Republic of China.

October 8-October 16, 1950: A Presidential trip to Wake Island for Harry Truman to meet with General Douglas MacArthur is organized and takes place with mixed results. (Special Section.)
