Late 1980:

President Jimmy Carter and the Congress create the Commission on the Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians (CWRIC). The commission’s mandate is to determine whether any wrong had been committed against people of Japanese descent in America during World War II, and, if a wrong had been done, to recommend appropriate remedial action.
