These gloves are similar to the ones worn by Mrs. Truman
in a photograph in 1901. Women in that time wore these
gloves with their dresses to cover their hands and arms.
When they went out they had to wear these gloves or they
were considered to be "unladylike."
As time went on, the gloves became more a sign of
elegance than necessity and were seen primarily at formal
events.
