The Missouri Waltz was not Truman's favorite song. In fact, he rather
disliked it, mainly because it was over played "in his honor" on more than
30,000 times during the campaign. He preferred classical music, polkas,
and WWI songs instead. Listed here are some songs that were listed
as Truman's favorites (the first two are WWI songs:
- "Over There"
- "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag and Smile, Smile,
Smile"
- "Toreador" from Carmen
- "Songs without Words" from Mendelssohn
- "Sextets from Lucia and Carmen"
- Beethoven Sonatas
- Chopin Waltzes, etudes, and polonaises
- Polkas from a number of composers
