Comments on Education:

According to the Truman footlocker scrapbook, Truman began first grade in Noland School in 1890. He was an excellent student and his first grade teacher's name was Miss Ewing. At Independence HIgh, he was in the class of 1901. At school he enjoyed history, art, music, and reading.

He learned from a history class that, "A leader is a man who has the ability to get other people to do what they don't want to do, and like it."

He also said that he doesn't remember having a bad teacher. He said, "They were all different, of course, but they were the salt of the earth."
