Determination

In 1934, Truman campaigned for the Senate. He had been sponsored by Tom Pendergast for his previous judge position, and because people thought Tom Pendergast had made deals with gangsters, they thought that Truman could not win.

But Truman did convince people that he could do a good honest job and he became a Senator.

As Senator, he worked late into the night reading and studying bills. He took matters into his own hands by traveling across country to investigate the matter of misspent money on military weapons. During World War II, he also saved billions of dollars by improving weapons.
