OPERATION LITTLE VITTLES

During the Berlin Airlift (1948-1949) a group of pilots decided to help boost the spirits of the German children. They organized a mission to drop candy to the children using parachutes made of handkerchiefs. The mission was called OPERATION LITTLE VITTLES.

Col. Gail S. Halvorsen from the United States Air Force organized the mission. He has just published a book about this effort. The book is called THE BERLIN CANDY BOMBER --Horizon Publishers.
