WhistleStop Campaign 1948
       Merritt Park Bandstand, Oakland, CA

Alma Quayle Bachelor wrote to us that her folks were ardent Republicans, but they went to see President Truman. She asked if the name "Quayle" sounded familiar. The newspapers boys were selling papers. In those days they still "hawked" their papers. It was past sunset, but she recalled the newspaper hawker calling: "The Call Bulletin-it's too dark to read, but great to sit on."
