Truman's School Days

Harry S Truman started school at the age of eight. Sending Harry to school was his mother's decision. When she sent him to school Harry already knew how to read and write. Harry walked to the Noland School in Independence. Harry's first teacher was Miss Ewing. She was pleasant to work with and Harry advanced rapidly in school.

Harry went to school one day and Miss Minnie Ward noticed he was acting strangly. She let him leave early. Harry had diphtheria which paralyzed him temporarily.

When Harry was sick, his mother helped him with his studies. He attended summer school at the Colombian School. Here his teacher was Miss Jennie Clements. She helped him and Harry advanced through high school. Harry Truman did not graduate from college, but he always valued education.
