Truman's Inaugural Parade

Truman was inaugurated on January 20, 1949. After the inauguration, there was a big parade through Washington. Truman's inaugural car was a 1949 Ford Cosmo convertible. He was very proud of the license plate number. It was the date of VE day (Victory over Europe). In the inaugural parade, Truman was followed by other new 1949 model cars. They were Lincolns and Mercurys. They were open convertible cars. Truman remained interested in cars all of his life.
