Our research project highlights events in the Truman administration from November 30, 1948 -December 7, 1948. We attend George Caleb Bingham 7th Grade Center and are located in Independence, Missouri, the home town of President Harry S. Truman. We are members of the first class at Bingham that opened this fall. Our teacher is Ruth Anne Eubanks. In our class we do a lot of things. We are rather talkative so we like to discuss things with each other in small groups and with Mrs. Eubanks. We like to do projects like this one. Mrs. Eubanks gives us help when we need to find things, most of the time we find stuff on our own. Each day the first thing we do is our D.O.G. which is Daily Oral Geography. After we check it each day we begin our assignments. We have done two Truman projects this year and we have also studied early man and the ancient river civilizations of Mesopotamia.

Our first research project was to see find out what happened on Truman's 1948 Whistle Stop Campaign which crossed the United States. We visited the Whistle Stop internet site and research what Truman did to win in 1948. We learned that Truman traveled around on a train so he could get around faster and make more speeches. He stood on the back of his train to make speeches. People came to the train stations to hear President Truman share his ideas. The people liked Truman because he was a President who spoke to the working people and was honest. President Truman said, "The Buck Stops Here!" He said that to let the people know that he was responsible for anything that happened while he was in the White House as President.

Some people in our class live only a block away from Truman's White House on Delaware Street near the center of our town Independence, Missouri. We hope you enjoy reading the facts we have found as we research what happened during November 30- December 7, 1948.
