FEATURED CLASS FOR NOVEMBER 17--DECEMBER 2:

8th GRADE CLASSES AT BRITTANY HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL,
BLUE SPRINGS, MISSOURI
SCREAMING EAGLES

There are approximately 980 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students enrolled at Brittany Hill Middle School. Brittany Hill is one of four middle schools in the Blue Springs R-IV School District in Blue Springs, Missouri. Each grade level is divided into three teams of approximately 100 students each. The Screaming Eagles are an eighth grade team taught language arts by Mrs. Arcisz, science by Mrs. Cavalluzzi, pre-algebra and algebra by Mrs. Stanton, and American history by Mr. Moppin. Through their social studies class, students worked on the "50 Years Ago" project.

After being divided into groups of 3-4 students, the groups chose their topic of investigation. Their options were either taking 2 specific dates during the Truman administration or from a list of topics including fashion, transportation, technology, medicine, theater, music, etc. After research and preparation, the groups presented what they had learned to the entire class through a variety of methods. Those groups that chose dates in the Truman administration presented through the Project WhistleStop site and by adding their information to a 24 foot long bulletin board timeline in their grade level commons area on the day that they had researched. Other groups presented through HyperStudio, Microsoft Publisher, a radio show, a fashion show, brochures, newspapers, and miniature billboards.
