Mr Dear Mr. President,
I wish to extend my hearty congratulations on your election, and I hope to do the same in person on my return to Washington about Dec. 15. There are many matters on which we can agree to disagree. On the other hand there may be some others where I can be of help in eliminating unnecessary legislative difficulties.
Mrs. Taft joins me in sending our best wishes for a happy four years to Mrs. Truman and yourself.

The President was busy preparing for his two week vacation at Key West Florida. The Independence Examiner reported that it wouldn't be much of a vacation, but instead Truman planned to work on a broad legislative program and review his cabinet appointments. The Examiner further reported that the first family would be forced to leave the White House while much needed repairs were made to the building which experts had declared as a, "fire trap." And, finally, the Examiner offered a piece among the birth announcements, shoe repair advertisements, and painting classes which congratulated the president on his victory gained through, "informal campaigning throughout the country [so that] the people came to know Harry Truman as we know him. They respect him for his undaunting courage, his perfect honesty and sincerity..."
