It was on this day, October 23, the President would give his first speech written by Lloyd in Pittsburgh. The speech was strongly focused on political agenda and so Lloyd wove in a joke of a very political nature. The joke was an imaginary dialogue between a patient and a doctor. The American people were the patient and Thomas Dewey was the doctor. The doctor asks the patient what has been worrying him lately and then the doctor prescribes to him his own syrup to calm his worries. The doctor will not tell the patient what is wrong with him and says that he never talks things over with his patients, but tells the patient that he will need a major operation and all it will include taking out complete works and adding the Republican Administration.
The President's speech schedule started in Scranton, Pennsylvania, then to Wilkes-Barre, Lock Haven, Johnstown, and Pittsburgh.
