On Thursday, January 27th at 9:45 A.M., Dr. Paul Dillon brought in two children to shake hands with the President. At 10:30 he had a press and radio conference. After that, at 11 A.M., Mr. A.F. Whitney, President, Brotherhood of railroad trainmen met with the President. It was arranged at suggestion of Dr. Steelman.
At 11:15, honorable James Henderson, Administrator, Philippine Alien Property Administration met with the President. He had asked Mr.Connelly to arrange this, stating he wished to talk to the President and also present him with a carved box containing cigars. At 11:30 he spoke with the Honorable W. Averell Harriman, Honorable Samuel I. Rosenman and the Honorable Stuart W. Symington. He wanted to invite the President to make a speech, off the record. At 11:45 he met with senator Francis J. Myers, Pa., and Mr. Albert M. Greenfield of Philadelphia. Senator Myers asked Mr. Connelly to arrange, stating Mr. Greenfield was very active in campaign for the President working with Colonel Louis Johnson.
At noon he met with Honorable Thomas D. McCabe, Chairman, Board of Governers, Federal Reserve Board. He asked Mr. Connelly to arrange this off-the-record. At 12:15 P.M., the President met with Major General Hugh J. Casey, engineer for Far East Command. At 12:30 he met with the Secretary of State on his usual Thursday appointment. At 1 P.M., he had lunch. At 3 P.M., he met with the Honorable George Luckey and family, wife, daughter, and son-in-law. At 3:30, he met with the secretary of the Navy, and Mr. Daniel Kimbell. At 3:40, the President attended a meeting of National Security Council in the Cabinet Room. At 4 P.M., he met with General Philip Fleming.
