The President met at 10:00 with a group of powerful men called the Big Four. They were: Alben W Barkley, the V.P. elect, Scott Lucas, Sam Rayburn, and John McCormick. The meeting lasted about an hour.
At 11:00, the President met with Mr. James Petrillo. He was the President of the American Federation of musicians. He presented the President an honorary gold membership card in the organization. Another interesting meeting took place at 11:45. Mr William Hyman and Mr. Julio Kilenyi, a sculptor, met with the President. They showed him a model of a medal that Mr. Hyman contributed to the Democratic Party. At 1:00, the President had his lunch. At 3:00 p.m., he met with Senator Carl Hatch.
President Truman sent a special message to Congress. In the message, he recommended that Congress enact legislation to restore the Reorganization Act of 1945 on a permanent basis. He also sent a message to the Senate about Wage and Hour Statistics in Mining and Manufacturing Industries.
