1920 Appointed Secretary, Central Committee of the Ukrainian Bolshevik Party
1922 Appointed member of the party secretariat
1926 Appointed member of the Politburo
1930-1939 Chairman, Council of People's Commissars (Prime Minister)
1939-1949 Foreign Minister
1952 Elected to the Presidium of the Communist Party
1953-1956 Foreign Minister
1957 Expelled from the Politburo and the Central Committee, appointed Ambassador to Mongolia
