Woodlawn Cemetery

Bess Truman's grandparents and her father and mother, David Willock and Madge Gates Wallace, are buried here. Harry Truman's last trip to Independence as President was to bury his mother-in-law, Madge Gates Wallace, in the Gates family plot. "She was a grand lady," Truman wrote. "When I hear these mother-in-law jokes I don't laugh. They are not funny to me, because I've had a good one." (Handwritten manuscript, December 6, 1952.)

Woodlawn Cemetary is located at 701 South Noland Road.
