Great Britain
The Viscount Trenchard
(The British Ambassador asked to present Lord Trenchard
to the President. Lord Trenchard was virtually the
founder and first commander of the Royal Air Force
which, as a separate military service under the British
Crown, was prototype of other spearate national air
forces subsequently created. He was Chief of the
Air Staff in the Air Ministry from 1918 until 1929
and subsequently was Commissioner of the Metropolitan
Police from 1921 to 1925. Since then he has held no
official position under the British Government but
has been an active member of the House of Lords. Lord
Trenchard is a Director of the British Goodyear Co.
and is visiting the United States as the guest of
Mr. Litchfield, the chairman of the Goodyear Tire
and Rubber Co.) |
